Military Checkpoint A

Post  Sasha Simpleswallow on Mon Mar 06, 2017 12:27 am

Sasha yawned, stretching her arms high above her head as she tilted her body left and right; her Jaeger Assault weapon swayed and hung from under her right arm pit, the heavy weapon bouncing against her right hip when she resumed an appropriate stature. Guard duty was not exciting work, but it was a safe job. Plus, nobody hassled her if she ate while on the patrol. She was still finishing off that baked potato salad back in the Guard Shack, and Kefka did bring in seasoned pork sausage...perhaps he was willing to share? She chuckled. Best hope so. I'm not above... taking a few off the links he's brought with him. He'll never notice they're missing. She thought, giggling with mouth watering excitement. Walking across the tarmac road, her boots clicked as she made her way towards the guard hut. The roads which ran through Checkpoint A was not surprisingly sparse with traffic given this early hour. Only a van which headed towards Jemial had passed through.

She walked passed Kefka and made her way into the Shack, setting her Jaeger Assault Carbine into the gun rack against the wall, the .38 Semi-Auto Quicksilver still affixed to her hip in its brown leather holster acting as her sidearm, much like many of the Galideno Military. She made her way to the fridge, yanking her salad out and prepared to dig in...

As Sasha ate, a Tenik Armadillo began rolling in:

It's loud engine no doubt lead to the soldiers on guard duty to become alert and stand attention as it came from the city side, rolling up to the shack before coming to a halt. The bay doors of the vehicle fold open, and a small entourage of bodyguards slipped out from the back, escorting the Generalissimo. His leather long coat flapped in the wind, his one hand held his cap, while the other held a manila file close to his hip. He descends from the vehicle, and scans the troops on hand for the one. Through the glass window of the shack he spots the one he seeks. Silently, he moves towards the little office area, and enters the small room.

Looking at the woman in person, he stood tall and held his hands behind his back. "Sargent Sasha Simpleswallow." he addressed the woman directly, awaiting for her response.

Sasha was rather oblivious to the approaching APC, having been used to them passing through on a rare, but not unusual basis while on guard duty. She was swallowing another mouthful of potatoes and mayonnaise when she nearly choked. Standing up quickly, she let her salad fall upon the shack's desk and greeted the Generalissimo proper! "Sir!" she saluted, pale, wide eyed and nervous. Why was the Generalissimo, the Commander of all Military Activities, the highest peg of the Galideno Military totem poll standing before her? Unannounced? He did check up on the forces at times, but usually the ones seeing the most heated of battles against the vile Domescadian Army.

She held her salute, pensively awaiting the Generalissimo's reply.

"At ease soldier. Sorry to have interrupted your break period Sargent, but there are things I would like to discuss with you in relative privacy. If you would please, follow me." he says, leading her to the APC outside. "Leave your meal, for it may spill." he says before returning to the Armored Transport.

She blinked and then nodded and saluted. "Y-yes Sir. Bu-but why me?" she asked, but he was already halfway out the door before as she did so.

Generalissimo Krotos wrote:"Leave your meal, for it may spill." he says before returning to the Armored Transport.

Frowning, turning to face her exposed Potato Salad one last time in a bidding farewell, she exited the shack after the Generalissimo, though all the more nervous now. She wondered if something had come up, if there was an injustice where she was framed for someone's murder! OH GODS, was she going to be courtmartialed? I didn't do anything! I swear! I only thought about stealing Kefka's sausages, I never actually committed the crime!! She thought erratically, swallowing hard as she mustered the courage to slip inside the APC.

She gulped again, mustering more courage to ask again: "S-Sir. For what brings you to meet with me, a lowly Sargent? Not even a commissioned officer no less. I figure a man of your status and rank would be... well, doing paperwork...or something." she shrugged, chuckling nervously.

The vehicle closed, and began to move. Nico turned to the lady Sargent and managed to smile slightly at her comment. "Being the Master of the Military is more than paperwork, but whether my time has been wasted on this visit is up to you, Sargent. But before I get onto that, I would like to ask you some personal questions." He says taking a brief pause to sit across from her, clasping his gloved hands together. "Firstly. You were a veteran of the skirmish on the Coreal Islands. Since your return to Galideno, how have you been settling in?"

She continued to chuckle nervously, and quite honestly did not feel any better with what he addressed out of reassurance. On his first personal question, she blinked confusedly. It wasn't a topic many wanted to bring up around Galideno, nor anywhere for that fact. "I'm... doing better than most. Half of my squad wasn't prepared for the bloodshed, so... there are some dealing with it worse than myself," she started her mind flashing back to four years ago, blood on her face, mud caked into her clothing as she moved across the battlefield, the semi-auto rifle in her hand feeling heavier with each enemy she shot at. She still wasn't sure if she had killed any of the enemy, and honestly did not want to know. "..but I'm doing well. Guard duty in the city beats a trench between us and the enemy's border, no matter how tedious it can be." she then noticed what she had said and blushed, waving her hands frantically. "N-no. Not that I don't like my job Sir! It's just...it is what it is. I mean, if Frey'd forbid this city was under attack or I had to be shipped out to the front lines again I'd gladly do so!" she asserted.

The Generalissimo didn't waver nor change his calculating expression, ignoring her moment of alarm as he proceeds to his next question. "Is that so, Sargent? For my second question, I ask, why is it you will devote yourself to the defense of the Galideno Concord? Or...are there more personal reasons? Do not worry, what you say stays between us as mortal beings, not as soldiers. To emphasize my point, I want you to call me by my first name, Sasha." he says before adding: "Nicodemus Krotos, or simply for now, Nico. I understand if it may be a little long winded for a forename, but it is the name I chose for myself." he says, speaking personally himself. "But my name's origins are nothing of our current discussion besides each of us getting to know one another. I must iterate my question: Why do you fight for the Concordat? The truth, unless it truly is blind patriotism which guides your blade and gun, Sasha..."

Sasha squished herself into her seat, frowning at the informal nature of his visit. She really began to ponder what in Sam Hill was the Generalissimo fraternizing with her. Still though, his words made her nervous yet... she felt compelled to tell him anyway given he wanted her to say his name out of military structure. "N-Nico.." she gulped, it felt weird rolling off her tongue, and her heart sank into her gut, as if expecting one of the Drill Instructors from her days at boot camp to advance towards her and give her a Rolan Suplex for her informal behavior. She cringed at the thought, and gulped. "We-well... To be 100% honest Sir, I... I am not here to defend Galideno. My reasons are indeed... more personal than patriotism, yet it is patriotism nonetheless." she says looking down at her fingers, which began to twiddle among one another. "I come from Rolan, Sir. A farmstead out in the Fields of Rolan. We are simple farmers and hunters, and with the country of Domescadia to the north of us, well... I got worried they may try and invade Rolan. Given how Rolan doesn't have a uniformed fighting force, its a Mercantile country on the Western end, and farmland and fields to the Eastern end. Mercenaries and farmers don't give me much faith to ward off the Domescadians. However, Galideno seems to be halting their movement from going further south. I put my trust in Galideno for its Military strength, and I think the cause is great if it means Rolan will remain out of Domescadia's hands." she says, looking up at Nico with an earnest look in her eyes. "I can't just sit around, waiting for them to invade. I want to help make a difference, even if I am but a single body, I am at least another pebble being thrown at the enemy." she says before frowning again, feeling weird at how open she was.

He remained silent throughout her explanation, an expression of contemplation upon his face. Listening to her thoroughly, he only nodded slightly at the end of her oath. "I see. You have decided to throw your life to the cause in defense of your own nation over our own. Every soldier who is in our ranks is able to make a difference. Though they simply follow orders, each of them has the capacity to carve out chinks in our enemy's armor, put damning wound in his eye, or halt them for that much longer. Officers may be credited for the task, but it is the sea of pebbles like you Sasha, that have made that stratagem possible. However... there is a way you can, as an individual, make more of a difference say than a mere pebble being cast upon or enemy's armor." he says, leaning back in his seat. "Sasha. I've got your file before me. As a veteran of the Coreal Islands Skirmish, and being of the rank of Sargent, you hereby meet the qualifications of being my personal Courier. The task is quite simply, supply running and delivery... meaning you are a glorified parcel carrier to lesser eyes. However... I take this job very seriously. It will be dangerous, rife with conflict from both the enemy and even our own military forces. After all you are to deliver Concordat sensitive material to key locations, under my exclusive orders. You are not allowed to look through the contents of anything I have you deliver, nor question my reasons for doing so. You are not to show the contents or explain why you are in possession of such contents to anyone outside the delivery target. I will allow you to make certain judgement calls for....unforeseen events that may or may not transpire. You cannot let the item I have you deliver fall into anyone else's hands. If necessary, destroy the said package." he then takes a moment for her to let that all sink in. "Delivery of crucial supplies and information is the sharpest spear we have against the Domescadian Army, Sasha. Will you accept, being the wielder of said spear?" he asked, lowering his head so that his sharp, calculating eyes met hers.

She blinked. "S-sir..." she was thrown off by the seemingly random offer. She'd be a package carrier for the Generalissimo, and it was apparently more of an impact than being a soldier. Delivery of crucial information and items of interest... she thought about it, and though it sounded like it would put a heavy mental strain upon her, she also appreciated the notion it would be more damning towards the Domescadian's in her delivery of said items.

"If I may be frank with you Sir," she says cautiously. "Isn't this a job for the likes of the T.I.R.S?" She knew the T.I.R.S. were well trained and able to pull off such deliveries without a hitch.

She remained silent for quite a while. The vehicle's rumbling engine and the vibrating interior reminded her that she was mobile with the Generalissimo. But with the distinction between the T.I.R.S. and the Galideno Military out of the way, she guess she was alight with a mix of curiosity and self worth. "A courier huh...? When do I start, Sir?" she asked with a simple smile.

You will be acting as Military Courier immediately. Here, take a look at these documents. As your virgin mission as Courier, I have provided you with two objectives. No, it should take only a day or two for a soldier of her rank. he thought to himself.

She took the package with a cautious eye, and at the dossier of the Scientist. She's heard of him of course. Hell, he was the world famous scientist and the mind behind much goings on from Tenik Industrial from technology that benefited everyone around the world to advancements in weaponry. I didn't think I'd be meeting famous people... and the Emperor of Beijio as well?! she thought making a shocked gasp as she thought about this.

He nodded. "Affirmative. I have determined the best course of action is to have you walk, given the possibilities of enemy spies who will attempt to thwart you if we simply flew you there or given you a military vehicle. Feel free to return in any way you like, the Galideno Military will compensate for this," he says pulling out a bundle from his jacket and handed it to her. "10,000 Gilex for use in your travels.
