A storage area for valundar's transport chopper. acts as a staging area for Bladebreaker's entourage.

Thompson sat at the edge of the courtard's central bonfire that was set up every night by the Castle Guardsmen and staff. The Butler stoked the flames with an expert yet gentle hand of the experienced, and watched the flames lick the firewood through his spectacles, their light glinting off of his glasses.

Vice's boots crunched on the loose cobblestone and gravel as he approached the the main encampment, and spotted the elderly fellow.

"Ay, Thompson." Vice gently called out, before approaching the orange bloom of the flames, revealing himself in the blueberry darkness of the night. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, and got closer, feeling the heat of the flames as he approached. The elderly butler was stoking the flames as he made his way around to greet the elder gentleman. It was quiet... and there was no sign of Myer anywhere either. The closest guards were patrolling the high walls behind the pitched tents and where the helicopter was parked, silent and cold as the grave. "Whats up old man?" He asked, smirking in a semi cocky manner.

Thompson smiled and indicated to Vice to sit on the chair beside him. Once the younger man was comfortable, Thompson began. "What you spoke of earlier of the Lifestream, that is knowledge taught to you by the education systems around the world. Rather textbook definitions. But the Lifestream is much much more than a simple flow of energy beneath the ground. Yes, it can be harnessed and transformed into Mako energy by Tenik's reactors, but that is the smallest fraction of it's real capabilities." The old butler stoked the fires a little bit more, and looked at Vice. "The lifestream is many things - the natural energy that keeps our world alive - the spirit of Galiavan incarnate - the well of souls that all mortal spirits draw from when they are born, and return to when they die - The source of all magic - and the source of all ki energy. Essentially, the Lifestream is the sheer fundamental force that allows life to exist on this planet."

"Now, this small island sits on what is called a leyline - a portion of the lifestream flows, or once flowed close to the surface beneath this very island. The people here are therefore much more in tune with the planet than normal, hence why they are not as dependant upon the technologies that the continental nations have built. They simply had no need for it, content with what they had. However, this very same leyline has produced a unique gift that some would destroy this island to obtain. The vitally rare mineral ore known as Bavarium. Bavarium is the crystalised form of lifestream energy occurring naturally within the substrata of the rock that surrounds it. With it, a very large number of advanced technologies become possible - Everything from powerful energy weapons, to gravitational drives that can move large masses, to faster than light travel. But more than that, Bavarium can. when used correctly, bolster a mortal's powers and capabilities well beyond their limitations. Many scientists now suspect that the Wargods themselves came to be due to considerable contact with the mineral at some point."

Vice had heard some of these phrases before, Barvarium one of them. It was a super rare ore and material used in only the top brass vehicles in Galideno, one of those TIRS related things. It was really rare, or so he had remembered. He listened as the old man continued, and chuckled. "I wouldn't go around telling that to anyone whose religious, Sebastian. They might take offense to such an accusation." He lightly warned, especially in a backwater like this. He supposed it was the fact it was a leyline that he felt uncomfortable around here. The air however, seemed purer and the land seemed inviting... which was all the more reason he felt uncomfortable. He wasn't used to such a thing. Lush green, misty air... he was used to the dry air and prairie of Galideno's grassy fields.

"Religeous zealotry or no, we cannot deny the truth, especially when we have the proof, and can replicate the feat. However, Lord Valundar will not use the device unless he had absolutely no other choice... Our hope is that we can keep the Bavarium here out of Abdel's hands without having to resort to using it in such a manner ourselves. That said, considering what we know Abdel has done, and plans to do... That choice may be taken out of our hands, unless the Wargods themselves intervene..." Thompson explained before he looked over and saw that they were being approached by Valundar himself. "My lord, all goes well?"

valundar smirked as he sat down "All is well. I must say the Queen is very.... energetic to say the least." The Lord Bladebreaker's eye turned to Vice. "I hope I have not interrupted."

Vice looked a bit miffed about the Zealotry bit, and was about to respond when Valundar's appearance snapped both of their attentions away. Vice eased up and smirked. "Not at all, Bossman. We were just chatting about religion, leylines, building up your grunt forces- that sorta thing." he chuckled, leaning forward in his seat when he brought up the Queen's... energy. "Oh... well I suppose that's good to hear." He chuckled. "So, what you think of the country? Lord Blade-Breaker?" He asked, changing the subject quickly.

Valundar smiled and leaned back in his own chair. "It's quite something. Rustic and primitive I would hear come from some of our contemporaries in Cretu, but that in itself has it's own unique charm about it. If it were possible, I would not change a thing... But it is not to be. If Abdel were to come here in force, the only thing preventing him from strip mining the entire island would be us, and the few thousand footsoldiers in plate mail, armed with swords, spears and bows. We'd be slaughtered. And then the rest of Galiavan would follow..."

Val leaned forward, lacing his fingers in front of him as he stared into the flames, their eerie light reflecting off of his cybernetic eye. "Indeed, I need to help Heres modernize her country, and fast. There's no telling how long it'll take before Adham sets his sights on us. Galaerion and Hrothor's sacrifices will only buy limited reprieve. And I will not let their courage be wasted by failing..."

He chuckled. "I'm still getting used to the air. Its lighter here than at home. But I guess it isn't so bad, save that feeling of impending doom at this rate." He says, bringing up his coffee again, having neglected about it this entire time. He stared into the bright orange flames and sighed. "Well if we can hire a good number of specialists, and get them to work here, well perhaps when the War is won, Lux can go back to its simpler roots. Or adapt, similarly to how Beijio is slowly doing in the West." he says, sipping the now colder coffee. He grimaced slightly, lowering the tin cup. "I know a guy who could be helpful, though these day's he a smuggler if I recall... Byron Lovegrove." he says, pulling up a dossier from his coat pocket. A simple paper profile of the man, with his service mug shots paper clipped to the heavily worn, folded papers. "Had to smuggle this from the Tenik Archives, I was lucky the cute librarian wasn't there. He's former military, decent pilot, unless he was all talk in the pubs." he chuckled. He handed the profile to Valundar. "He's a start."

Curious as to Vice's recommendation, Val took the file from the young man and had a brief look, before he saw the picture. A wave of Deja Vu and nostalgia swept through him, and it was not the pleasant kind. His mind was taken back to that dark and stormy night, the night where he experienced his first great pain. The look on his face spoke volumes in silence, as his brow creased, and his cybernetic eye lit up like a red sun.

Thompson was the first to notice, and saw that his lord's fingers had turned white, gripping the pages as he was. "My lord?" the old butler queried, before he gently reached out and placed a hand on Val's wrist, using his other hand to take the papers from Val's suddenly slackened grip. When the old man saw who this Byron was, his own eyes widened behind his glasses, before he sighed and lowered his head. "Oh dear..." he murmured. "This is going to be awkward indeed..."

Vice continued to drink from the tin cup, somewhat dissatisfied with its taste now. "Bleh..." he spills the Domescan blend into a corner of the fire, quenching the flames briefly before their intensity resumed. In that brief moment of darkness, the merc didn't see the change in Val, save the flicker of his artificial eye... The flames glow returning, Vice now looked upon a rather pensive Scardian Lord. This caused Vice to raise his brow. "Hey... you okay?" He asked. Silence. He turned to Thompson, who now took the files from Lord Bladebreaker's hands. "Huh? Whats going on? Its like you both seen a ghost..."

Thompson looked over at Vice as Val was unresponsive for the moment, and sighed. "I'm sorry vice... but the man who is in this picture... yes, we know of him. Unfortunately, he was present during a particularly dark day in Lord Valundar's past... And in a way, the memory is a ghost of a time long past."

"It was a day I can never forget..." Val stated suddenly. "A day when Galideno and the tenik's betrayed us all, and it cost the life of an innocent girl I held most dear..."

Val took a locket from around his neck, and opened it. Within it, on one side, was a young man, Val 20 years ago, holding a little girl in his arms. His younger sister, Rose. "It was during the height of the Beijionese Tiberculosis outbreak 20 years ago. We had paid for large quantities of the curative serum from the Teniks. but when it came time for them to deliver, they withheld the curative.... Desperate, and with time running out, I infiltrated their supply base near the Galideno border alone and without the governments knowledge. I didn't care, I had to save as many as I could, including her... I managed to carry two crates full of the stuff back to Cretu Royal Hospital... but even as the curative was administered, and was feeding through her drip... Rose..." Val'd hand closed the locket gently. "She didn't make it... I was in shock... I don't really remember what happened myself..."

Thompson picked up the story. "He left the hospital dispondent. Unresponsive even to me, to his parents, they all watched him leave, thinking he was heading back to the Blade Breaker Estate to grieve... I knew better. I followed him, but the route he was taking, he was travelling back to the supply base in his stupor. His grief becoming an agonizing rage that fuelled his powers in the darkest way possible... By the time he reached the base, a dark storm had descended as night had fallen, and I could no longer reach him, as his powers became so violent and deadly it was ripping the roads apart. And in that state... he launched himself at the base with all the hatred and fury he could muster at his fingertips. In less than an hour, he had destroyed most of the base, and killed all but a handful of people...It was a complete massacre the likes of which had not been seen since the founding of Scardia. When his power waned, Lord Valundar finally collapsed at the eye of the maelstrom he had created. One of the survivors that came to confront the monster who had slaughtered their fellow soldiers was Byron... He was intent on shooting Lord Valundar's unconscious body dead in retribution, but... he was swayed by Chuesluk's words, and Val's unconscious tears... I believe Byron knew something truly terrible had to have triggered Valundar's rage, and thus left without firing a shot. Leaving me to tend to his wounds." The Butler completed the story with a sigh.

Vice sat in silence for a while, looking between the two of them. "Freyd the Wise..." He says under his breath, cold sweat rolling down the side of his face. "So... thats where that mystery scar of his came from..." He says, recalling how Byron had a love of showing off his battle scars, save... a particularly nasty one. One which had spider webbed from the center of his chest and radiated outward. No matter how drunk you got him, he would clam up and frown when you brought it up, or egged him on about its origin. He'd even get down right pissy with people about it, and broke a patron's jaw once when they pressed him beyond silent anger. It was a bit surreal, to finally understand what happened to the Captain and hear from the attacker's point of view. Vice took this all as a mature third party, as he choked it up to War time, and during something as grievous as the BTB pandemic. He lost some family to that too growing up, but was one of the... lucky ones, to get the treatment done to his young body at the time. "Perhaps its fate... the guy likes to smuggle things to war torn areas, provide aid to the victims of Abdel's chaos or so I hear. He's retired too, so..." he shrugged. "...Just think how he'll react upon being approached." He chuckled, somewhat uneasily, trying to change the mood a bit.

"I disgraced myself on that night. Byron would have been well within his rights to have executed me. I never saw him again... but now..." Valundar's eye light diminished as he came to a choice. "Reach out to him... if he will hear my plea, I will gladly accept his help."

He then turned to Thompson "Also, see if you can locate the Wolfbreaker sisters. I believe that the time has come for them to be given their chance to be something more. And this island needs a good air and sea fleet."

"As you say, sir." Thompson replied as he stood up and moved over to the temporary radio shack to make a long distance call.

"So... thats where that mystery scar of his came from..." He says, recalling how Byron had a love of showing off his battle scars, save... a particularly nasty one.

Vice brows raised. "You say Wolfbreaker?" He remembered the name. About two or so years ago, when he was still in the Galideno Air Corps, he heard of a genius pilot by the name of Wolfbreaker. He was told they mysteriously discharged from the service... also didn't realize Wolfbreaker was a woman. "I've heard of her, she was a natural and had excelled in physical combat as well or so I heard. Though, didn't realize that they were a 'she' till now." He says, looking over to Thompson over his shoulder, before turning to face Val again. "Nor that she had a sister. You know... I could go and retrieve them for you." He smirked playfully.

Val quirked an eyebrow at Vice. "But don't you have your hands full with recruiting Byron?" asked Val, before shaking his head. "Nevermind, I know convincing you to be moderate with taking on additional duties is a wasted effort. I was the same way once. Very well, you'll find the younger of the two sisters, the one you are familiar with, Franziska, operating a small in at Lostrun called the Quiet Lamb. As for Kurstin, the older sister... nobody really knows. She disappeared two years ago."

Thompson emerged from the radio shack. "Lord Istion is enroute to Lostrun now Sir. He said he'll meet whomever we send at the inn when they arrive.

"And there is your que Vice." Valundar said with a grin.

"Oh? Yes. Very familiar." He says. He didn't even know what she looked like, which was half the fun. "Lord Istion is there too? Very well. Its been a few months since I seen him." Vice chuckled. "Well luck so has it, Byron runs his flights between Scardia and Beiji-Scardia Islands. It'll be like killing two birds with one stone, I'll come back with a pair of excellent pilots Bossman, you can count on me!" He says standing up. The bit about the elder sister was troubling, but he supposed he would assist in bringing in Byron and this Franziska. Thats when he realized... he'd have to either take their helicopter, or that Dragon-something, Scardian Noble's sea plane. "I think I'll take the young lord's seaplane back to Scardia. It has courier markings, and with his new fox pet, I think he's not gonna return to work any time soon." He smirked. "Good plan?"

Valundar looked at Thompson with regards to using the Dragonsworn's seaplane. Then sighed. "Just try and make sure you return it intact. I will have to insure it myself otherwise..." Val asked. Normally the Scardian lord would have offerred to have a pilot fly Vice to his destination via the helicopter, but right now the aircraft was needed more here.

"May you win every battle." Val said, one of he Scardian's traditional sayings.

"Tsk, you say that like I crash everything I fly!" He says semi annoyed, before chuckling. "You're looking at the master of landing here, Sir. And air combat, among others. I'd take the chopper or wake Myer's ass up and have him drop me off, but that thing's the only real artillery on this island." Vice then began to head to the port, when he heard the Luminary of Scardia call out behind him. He paused, chuckling. "Heh, S'card quotes huh...? In that case... 'Let your wind be the one which topples Tyranny'." He says in an obvious ominous tone. He continued forward, not looking back, picking up his bag and slung it over his shoulder, his free hand nonchalantly waving 'goodbye'. "The Galideno Air Corps motto!" He called back, revealing the origin of his saying, which was ironically used when pilots were testing out new airplanes. If the equipment crashed and burned, it said in the flight manual to 'aim for the enemy'.
